6 newborn items i couldn’t live without
Baby items I couldn’t live without
I’m all for an easy life! I’m probably a marketers dream because if I like it I buy it.
When I was pregnant with Kerr I really wanted to make my life as simple as possible, and then when I had Alba I realised how much money I had actually wasted. I didn’t have the space for things I barely used and therefore, as we all do, went rogue and had a clear out.
There are definitely things I couldn’t live without being a new mum. These have been my saving grace!
Sling/Baby carrier
When Kerr wouldn’t sleep I put him in the sling close to me. I done my washing, my hoovering and even made beds with the wee guy attached. It gave me the freedom of a free pair of hands when he was having a nap. I knew, as all newborns do, that he would want to contact nap when he could and I was fine with that. However, as the time went on I really couldn’t still be sitting on the couch from the minute Callum left for work until he came home. That was pushing it. So the sling got opened and it was a game changer.
I originally used the sling from the baby box. It was amazing. Once you learn the art of putting it on it becomes your best friend. As Kerr got bigger I then moved onto one that was easier to put on and Kerr could easily be moved in and out with ease.
When Alba was born, at a teeny 5lbs 8oz, I knew that she would take a bit longer fitting into the “size” for her age. Clothes, snowsuits and even the pram bassinet drowned her. I felt more comfortable with her attached to me knowing she would grow into things at her own pace. Not only did I feel more secure but it also gave me the free hands I mentioned earlier. Need I remind you that I had a 16 month old toddler who, lets just put it plain, was fucking wild.
2. Bath Seat
I have bathed Kerr and Alba together from the second she came home from the hospital. I was determined to create the same routine for her as I did Kerr so knew things had to start asap. It made my life easier being able to have them side by side in the bath and knew Alba was comfortable and secure.
3. Muslin Cloths/Bibs
There is a reason they come in multipacks because babies are messy. The spit up, they are sick, they have bogies and they pee everywhere. Having something like a muslin cloth handy can not only be convenient but can also save you a change of clothes.
4. Nappy Caddy
I still have these and my babies are 2.5years old and 1 year old. I stock them up with nappies, wipes, nappy creams and nappy bags. I know where they are and know when I need to restock them!
5. Formula/Powder tubs
These tiny tubs of gold made night feeds and trips out of the house so much easier. You fill them up with however many ounces you need and you’re good to go. No sticky spilled formula spoon battle with every feed and you’ve all ready pre measured for your bottle!
6. White Noise Machine
Another one my babies still use! Exposing newborns to noise is actually proven to be beneficial to their sleep cycles and patterns. I hoovered when they slept, kept music playing and didn’t give Kerr into trouble when he was noisy around Alba. Now they sleep with white noise on to try and drown each other crying in the night!
I could honestly write a list of 100 things but for now I’ll leave these here for now. As I said, Im a marketers dream and I’m a sucker for a bargain so if you can tell me it will help me, I’ll buy 2.
